Badass Hero Within

As many of you know, most of my posts these days take the form of a VLOG - Video Blog on YouTube - vs. writing here on the Blog/Website. The playlist link is below:
But this time, I felt like it was important to share this one to both platforms, because the audience reach is different with each one. I would love to encourage you to follow us @CCnDoc on social media and also to follow our YouTube channel for the latest information, adventures, posts, songs (NEW)/Music Videos and diatribes. We post on those outlets daily.
🎥 My Badass Life VLOG #40 - 2/21/26 💩
I didn’t fight like hell to survive stage 3b rectal cancer to sit on the sidelines of my life and watch it be torn down without a fight...
...To be dismissed, marginalized, disparaged, disregarded and discounted… You may have noticed I took a break from posting My Badass Life Videos for a minute… I (like many) have been exhausted just trying to process the firehose of news that impacts our lives on a daily basis. (Never ask if it can get worse). Both as a cancer survivor, as women and as LGBTQ+ people (google “how to legally eradicate certain populations”). Spending all of your time on “high alert” is certainly not good for the body and soul. But sadly, that is the mindset we have been forced into this last year+. The fact that at this stage of our lives - post covid, cancer, into retirement and now the “regime” - that we have to create NEW (and what may be extreme) contingency and backup plans for health, rights, financial security and our literal safety is just too much to process some days. The fact that so many are sitting idly and blindly by - even people we know and love - makes it that much harder.
Writing #ProtestSongs helps. But I also see the toll it’s taking on us, my fellow cancer survivors, our immigrant friends (one is hiding in her apartment in MN as we speak), friends of color, and our LGBTQ+ family. And for all you see on the news (or not 🙄), So MUCH more is happening under the radar and behind the scenes that most “normies” will never hear about, let alone seek to understand. So many things are slipping away right under people’s noses. It’s a tough thing to grapple with - the apparent lack of national empathy, compassion and basic human decency is at a level only imagined in dystopian novels before now. Human rights watch lists are sounding alarms all over the world.
Yet, despite it all, I’m not sure how, but just like during cancer treatment, I remain hopeful: That more people will start to open their eyes, remove their heads from the sand and speak up, take a stand and at the very least call their local, state and federal representatives to make themselves heard. That hate, self-righteousness, and selfishness, as well as prejudice and ignorance are not what most people are. That evil cannot win. That somehow we will each find the hero within ourselves, enough to do our part to stop the madness. In the meantime, we strategize, outwit, outplay, outlast, and find the hero within.
Hasta Pronto from Mexico!
